卍
回転運動による安定、調和、幸福　
スワスティカという言葉自体はサンスクリット語で「幸あれ」
の意味で、吉兆、幸運を表す。
古くは紀元前1万年前のマンモスの牙に鉤十字が彫られている。
最も古い卍は、新石器時代のインドで見られる。

かつては洋の東西を問わず幸運のシンボルとして用いられていた。
日本、中国等の芸術において卍はしばしば繰り返すパターンの一部
として見られる。
日本では、寺院の象徴として地図記号にも使用され、家紋の図案に
も取り入れられている。まれに忍者を表す場合にも使われる。

ヒンドゥー教ではヴィシュヌ神の胸の旋毛(つむじ)、
仏教では釈迦の胸の瑞相が由来で、

サンスクリット語でSvastika
(デーヴァナーガリー表記: स्वस्तिक、スワスティカ、スヴァスティカ)

現在の日本語では「まんじ」は漢字「卍」の訓読みとされているが、
由来は漢語「卍字」または「万字」の音読みである。
左卍と右卍(卐)があり、現代の日本では左卍が多く用いられている。
漢字では卐は卍の異体字である。
