・Agave/Magueyの葉
【竜舌蘭】
リュウゼツラン属(竜舌蘭、Agave、アガヴェ)
の大形多年草。メキシコ原産。
テキーラ/メスカルの原材料。
メスカルとはメキシコ/ハリスコ州以外のテキーラ
と同じ蒸留方法で製造したお酒です。
Agave はカール・フォン・リンネがギリシャ神話の
アガウエーから名付けたもので、メキシコではマゲイ
(西: maguey)とも呼ばれている。
英名は、century　plants(センチュリープランツ)」。
まるで「百年に一度」しか開花しないかのような生態
であることから、こうなったと思われます。
実際には数十年に一度開花します。
開花すると、親株は枯死して世代交代します。
花言葉は「繊細」「気高い貴婦人」

・Agave/Maguey leaves
[Agave]
A large perennial plant of the Agave genus (Agave).
Native to Mexico.
Raw material for tequila/mezcal.
Mezcal is a liquor made using the same distillation method
as tequila outside of Jalisco, Mexico.
Agave was named by Carl von Linnaeus after Agauway in
Greek mythology, and is also called maguey in Mexico.
The English name is "century plants."
This is thought to be because of their ecology, which makes
it seem as if they only bloom "once every century."
In reality, they bloom once every few decades.
When they bloom, the parent plant dies and a new generation takes over.
The flower's meaning is "delicate" and "noble lady."
